Tom Ellison is a Consultant and Non-Executive Director with over 30 years of experience in children’s residential care, specialising in leadership development, coaching, and training for senior leaders in the sector.
Renowned for his expertise in supporting young people with complex mental health challenges, Tom combines innovative therapeutic approaches with a passion for improving outcomes for children in care.
Starting his career working directly with young people in the third sector, Tom became a director in 2004 at a specialist provider for survivors of severe sexual abuse. He later held senior leadership roles at multiple providers, earning a reputation for turning around failing services by integrating therapeutic models into traditional care frameworks.
From 2014 to 2022, Tom was instrumental in leading Young Foundations, a national provider of residential care, education, and clinical support for young people transitioning from Tier 4 CAMHS care. Under his leadership, the organisation doubled in size and won awards for its pioneering hybrid clinical/social care model.
In 2022, Tom founded Ellison Lynd Consulting to support local authorities, third-sector organisations, and independent providers in enhancing services for children in care. In 2025, he launched Elevate Professional Development, delivering workshops and training across the UK focused on leadership, people development, and strategic management in children’s residential care. His coaching and mentoring empower senior leaders to drive organisational success and improve outcomes for vulnerable young people.
Tom holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Psychology, alongside postgraduate qualifications in Management Studies and Strategic Management. His academic foundation and extensive experience make him a trusted advisor and mentor.
He currently serves as Non-Executive Chair at AMMA Childcare Ltd, Non-Executive Director at Cedars Childcare Ltd and Empathy CIC, a member of the Advisory Board at Approach Education Ltd, an Associate Contributor to the National Centre for Excellence in Residential Child Care, and a Business Mentor with GM Business Growth Hub.
